"Star Trek Deep Space Nine" continues the "Star Trek" tradition with a new twist. DS9 is a space station orbiting the planet Bajor which has recently fought it's way to freedom. The station's strategic location to a stable wormhole makes it a political hotbed, and Bajor is hardly in the position to defend itself. The Federation signed an agreement to run the station for the Bajoran people until such time as they are able to run it themselves. The Bajoran government has placed Major Kira on the station as a liaison with Captain Sisko and the Federation.
Duncan Regehr plays Shakaar, the leader of Major Kira's resistance cell now turned farmer. When a group of farmers refuses to return a valuable soil reclamation machine the First Minister asks Major Kira to intervene. Upon talking to Shakaar and the group, Major Kira realizes the farmers are in the right and joins them. Eventually the rebels realize that this is not the way to fight, and give themselves up. Instead Shakaar runs for First Minister, and is elected by a landslide.
The two subsequent episodes in which Duncan appeared as Shakaar were Crossfire and Begotten.
(These episodes are now available
in the season sets of the series on DVD as well as on VHS.)
